Do I need a camera with an AF illuminator?

What is it exactly?

One of my cameras is a Fuji 9000 - it has an illuminator. It is the illuminator. Instead a pre-flash using my Rebel XS, 9000 shines a green light on the subject in low light and uses it to grab attention. It is very effective and works very well. Illuminati replaces a pre-flash. Some prefer this system, I do. I do not particularly like the pre-flash on my XS but that's a great camera that I put up with it.
