I am looking for a good home alarm system?
i have just moved into Canada and i am looking for the most affordable and effective Home alarm that is available today...
A lot of ground to cover here.
How technical are you? Were you planning to install the system yourself or did you want a technician to come around and install it? What level of protection were you looking for?
The easiest route is to check the local paper and get a local vendor in to install what is likely a wireless system, where the cost of the hardware is built in to your monitoring costs on a 36 month contract (generally in the neighborhood of $25-35 a month, or $1000 over the life of the contract). These systems are generally adequate, but require battery replacement and suffer from occasional false alarms when the double sided tape holding the sensors gives up. Also in these cases you may not actually "own" the alarm system, so read the fine print carefully.
The benefit of these systems (wireless over wired) is that the installation cost is significantly reduced as the wires don't have to be fished down inside the walls for each device.
The less simple route is to pay for the hardware yourself, install the system and then have a company monitor it for you (In this case you would pay around $500 for the hardware for a basic system, and then you could have it monitored by "The Monitoring Center" for $9.99 a month - Making your comparable three year cost $860). The system would be fundamentally the same, but you would own the hardware.
