How do i fix a hand sized hole in a solid wood door?
I was accidentally locked inside a room with only one exit being the locked door so i had to escape the evil clutches of said room and i cut a hand sized hole into the door next to the door knob to free myself. i would rather not buy a new door and i am pretty handy when it comes to these types of things just looking for suggestions i cant use security sheets because the door isn't mine and that's too obvious of a change but i have a week or so to fix the door please any suggestions are appreciated! thank you.
Check the price of a door.
Then compare it to the cost of these items (assuming you have none of these)
a light sander ($25 or roundabouts)
2 thin metal sheet (available in HomeDepot typically used to plug drywall holes) -- $ 6 to 7 each.
wood filler - $10 - $20
paint - $10 (or so)
something to cut the door even more, to give it a clean cut to be able to fix it.
Time -- to read on how to get the fix done right, about 2 hrs to prep and use wood filler.
Alternatively, use a thing board and using small light nails, nail it into the door; paint it, and voila, good as new.
If the door isnt yours, the owner WILL find out anyway, and he will charge you for the door. So, you can now add the price of the door to the price of all the stuff you had to use.
