what should a security system DVR have?
im looking for a security system DVR for the outdoor camera that i bought recently but i don't know what qualities should a good security DVR have ?
i was searching on ebay and i have seen this DVR that is only for $50 and the other one is 150
what is the difference between them? what a good DVR should've have?

Hello, A good dvr needs to have a good rate of recording and good compression. Otherwise you get choppy video and its hard to watch. You said 1 camera are you getting more? Did the dvrs you saw have hard drives or are they SD card based.
A dvr like this one http://www.spyville.com/web-ready-4-channel-dvr-500-gb.html has a 500 GB hard drive and can record 4 cameras @ 60 fps ( frames per second) so 4 cameras will run 15 fps each 2 at 30 fps and 1 @ 60 fps. You could add more cameras later or not plus it has internet view.
If you want an SD based recorder look at this one http://www.spyville.com/motion-activated-security-dvr.html it is a 1 camera recorder @ 25 fps and saves the video on an sd card. this is great to save money if you know you will never want more cameras.
So overall a good DVR will have the highest frame rate you can get (30fps) is real time when viewing. Remember that dvr will advertise 120fps BUT if its an 8 channel its only 15 fps per camera.
Compression is also important MPEG4 is good and H.264 is better. Basically compression is just that how well the video is compressed ( how much room it will take up without losing quality.
Price is an important factor too. You can get a DVR without a Hard drive and add your own IF you know how otherwise you pay them to have it put in and formatted.
