Cctv nation?
I was just watching a documentary about cctv in Britain and how its helps solves crimes. There was one bit in the program where the cctv camera's were showing you a man and wife having a domestic, i mean is'nt that a huge violation of privacy!?. I was absolutley shocked to know that these cameras can look right into our homes, i could actually see what colour wallpaper they had!. I think that while cameras are a huge help with solving crimes (which is what this show was demonstrating), they should not put them in residential areas!?. Opinions?.
Well basically, the bloke on the show was saying that they can only spend 5-10 mins looking into any one residence, but still what might they see in those ten mins? me going to the loo half naked in the night!?.
The cries of if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear are just fantasy. How do you know for certain that the person operating the camera isn't a perve or worse yet a paedo? and if that were true why aren't the operators details in the public domain in the same manner which pcso's and local police are? I personally will not allow a local authority/governmentcamera around my home for the protection of my family and would rather be convicted of vandalising a camera; should it be necessary. I remember reading in the paper last year Bournemouth placed a 360 degree camera on a street light right outside a woman's bedroom window and told her not to worry as it would not be used to look into her home....... well that's alright then?
My main opposition to cctv is that it does not prevent crime it merely helps with a conviction and is very indicative of the police and entire justice system at the momment. The police don't want to be out there tackling people who cause the victims such misery they'd rather just sit back, watch it happen and then deal with it later - I personally find it very disturbing. Please don't get me wrong I know they have their uses but this massive reliance which we have on them now is not just nonsensical it is bizzare.
