How do you change out the standard definition optical sensor of your camcorder to a high definition sensor?
I want to change out the 1/8 inch CCD standard definition optical sensor on my Panasonic SDR S26 camcorder to a high definition optical sensor. Either 3CCD or a larger 1/4 to 1/6 inch CCD sensor. My idea is to greatly improve to quality of video and even possibly make my camcorder high definition.
Please don't answer and simply say to get another camcorder because that will most definitely NOT answer my question.
all the parts inside you SDR S26 would have to be replaced. so you would spend about $5,000 to buy indivdual pieces and end up with a $500 camcorder. besides the CCD sensor, you would need to replace the lens for one with sufficient resolution for HD imaging. changing the image size from 1/8 to 1/4 inch will double the focal length required of the lens and quadruple its cost. you just don't put 3 CCDs in the place of one, you need a prism block that separates light into Red, Green and Blue components. Then all the ICs that address and read the CCD would have to be replaced because now you have 1080 lines to scan instead of 480, actually 3 times over if you are going to 3CCD. The firmware that encodes the digital files will have to be changed for HD. You will need to manufacture, or take out of another camera new circuit boards to accept all these added chips so they can be wired up.
