AverTv HD DVR capture card?
I want to record my PS3 gameplay so I bought a Dazzle capture card. Problem is, I use an HDMI cable to play on my TV and after hours of research, a Dazzle just isn't for me. Then I found the AverTv HD DVR, it's perfect. HDMI input and I found one for $85. I also found a good deal on an HDMI splitter and 2 more HDMI cables I need. I'm gonna spend about $70 more with this then I did with the Dazzle but I think it's worth it. All I need to know is if my computer can handle the capture card because I'm pretty sure it has requirements. Here are my computer properties: Intel Pentium 4 with 3.00 Ghz - 2 GB RAM - 160 GB Hard Drive - ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 Graphics Card - Windows Vista - And the computer is like 3-5 years old. Also, I was wondering if the website I found the capture card at was reliable, it's factorysonline.com Thank You so much!
Allot of people are getting confused these days when comes to buying a HD PVR. Your computer does not necessarily need to be quote un qoute fastest enough to use a HD PVR. There are several designs for HDPVR devices on the market. Some come in 2 parts while others come in one part.
What do I mean by 2 parts. Most computer dependent HD PVR's comes with a external piece of hardware and then a software.
The external hardware is generally a square box that has USB, component, composite, S-Video inputs and outputs. These types of HDPVR's will not work by themselves and they require the computer to work. If the computer is not fast enough or meet certain requirements then the HDPVR will not record your gameplay smoothly. Sound will lag video - giving you video and audio that is out of sync in your recordings.
There are other HDPVR devices that work great without a computer and great with a computer, but these HDPVR do not have computer dependencies at all. Meaning all the software or firmware is on the HDPVR and you can virtually do everything from the HDPVR without a computer. These HDPVR are regarded as one piece units.
All HDPVR or most high end ones have outputs such as component, composite, s-video, and/or usb. Inputs are generally a different story. Some composite input with upscaler / upconverter while other use analog component input. None of them use HDMI at the time of this writing for patenting reasons.
Hopefully this writing will help you yahoo search or google more options. Look up different capturing devices to further define your need, want, and desire. Chances are at the end of your research you will not need a computer dependent HD PVR. Consider fraps, easycap, tristar mx hd pvr, hauppauge, blackmagic, etc etc etc etc When you find the one that you really want visit the manufacturer website for the best requirements for that product. Measure those outlined requirements with what you currently have. Good luck.
