Cable Security..URGENT?
I really need to know if we get all our browsing, CHATS saved at the side of cable operators? in other words, if we have cable connection, are the operators, by sitting at their office, able to save our msn chats n all? by using any software, anything like that,,? please reply to this query as its kinda urgent...
IF YES.. THEN HOW HOW?
yes they can, EVERYTHING you do using your internet connection is passing through the servers of your internet service provider since they're providing the service.
absolutely everything is backed up onto disk in real time, this information needs to be retained for legal reasons - if a law enforcement agency come to the isp with the required documents and ask for the activity logs regarding one of their users then the isp has to be able to provide it to them.
unless you're chatting about something incredibly illegal then no-one will read it - there's far too much data flying about from their many users to be able to sit there casually reading it, only certain activity will be automatically flagged for a real human to take a look at.
they don't require any special software, they own and control the computers you're using to connect to the internet and as such they can see everything that passes through them.
